A breathtaking journey toward self-discovery and true love, from the author of If I Stay
When sheltered American good girl Allyson "LuLu" Healey first meets laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance of Twelfth Night in England, there’s an undeniable spark. After just one day together, that spark bursts into a flame, or so it seems to Allyson, until the following morning, when she wakes up after a whirlwind day in Paris to discover that Willem has left. Over the next year, Allyson embarks on a journey to come to terms with the narrow confines of her life, and through Shakespeare, travel, and a quest for her almost-true-love, to break free of those confines.
Just One Day is the first in a sweepingly romantic duet of novels. Willem’s story—Just One Year—is coming soon!
MY THOUGHTSOH MY GOD. CAN I JUST HAVE JUST ONE YEAR RIGHT NOW?! I NEED TO KNOW MORE. I LOVE WILLEM BUT ON THE OTHER HAND I HATE HIM AND I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED OMG. No but seriously guys, I just don't know what to do anymore. I finished this book yesterday and I'm still depressed about this. I went to the store and if they would have the sequel and otherwise i would have bought it. But it didn't. AND NOW I NEED TO WAIT WEEKS BEFORE TBD SENDS ME MY BOOK AND OMG. (I didn't even order it yet. Maybe I should)
First thing I loved; DUTCHNESS. I loved all the Dutch things in this book. Hach-el-slach. Favorite thing. How they discussed about hagelslag and I'm just. Totally fav. I loved how they visited Utrecht and the University of Utrecht. And how it was considered small. Well I was there and I thought it was quite huge. (but then again I'm from the rural area of Drenthe where there are cows and farms everywhere, so I don't know). But Out. Smy. Ter. Uitsmijter. Wow. Plus the name Willem de Ruiter which is probably the most typical Dutch name the author could have thought off. I'm so happy. SO HAPPY.
Second thing I loved; THE ROMANCE. I loved the romantic tension between the two, but I'm still not sure if it's genuine or not. I'm super curious to find this out in the sequel, because I'm so confused and I'm so depressed. Like Willem, you can't just leave her there in Paris on her own. What the heck were you thinking. Dude. But okay, I can't change Willem's pathetic mind.
Third thing I loved; THE WRITING. It just pulled me in like that. I just wanted to continue reading and not stop. So I actually finished it in two days or so. I read the first couple of pages first and then bam, I read everything in two goes. I loved it. I really liked it. I liked it more than If I Stay, even though that book was also fantastic. (maybe I just like this more because Willem is Dutch).
I kept fan-girling about the Dutch things to my mum. Like "MOM HAGELSLAG IS MENTIONED OMFG". And I must have quoted one part to my friends a million times. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE GUYS.
Okay I loved this book. I recommend it to everyone that wants to fangirl with me about Dutch stuff. Or about Willem. Or Allyson. Or just this book generally. Come join my gang of fangirlness.
